Types of charter in Mallorca: which one is right for you?
When someone searches for "boat rental in Mallorca" they usually picture one single thing, but in reality there are several fairly different options — in cost, in freedom, and in what's included. Here's the real difference between each one, without the jargon.
Skippered charter vs. bareboat
A skippered charter includes a licensed professional who sails the boat for you. It's what the vast majority of first-time renters choose, or anyone who simply wants to enjoy the day without worrying about navigation, weather, or docking manoeuvres.
Bareboat charter (no skipper included) requires someone in the group to hold a valid boating licence and real sailing experience, and it's usually only cheaper if you already have that licence. At Blue Mediterranean, every charter includes a professional skipper by default.
Half-day vs. full-day
A half-day (typically 4 hours) works well for a single cove or an area close to the departure port, or if you're travelling with young children. A full day (6-8 hours) lets you combine two stops, have lunch on board or at a beach club, and enjoy the day without watching the clock.
If it's your first time, a half-day is a safe way to try the experience before booking something longer.
Private charter for groups and events
Bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays, anniversaries or corporate events: the boat becomes an exclusive space for your group, with the option to add catering, music or water activities (jet skis, seabobs) depending on group size and the boat you choose.
For these occasions it's worth booking further ahead, since availability for larger-capacity boats fills up fastest in high season.
