Sunset charters in Mallorca: the best spots to watch the sun go down
A sunset charter is, quite possibly, the most requested plan for couples, anniversaries and marriage proposals — and for good reason: you don't need a full day, the mood is relaxed from the very first minute, and the scenery does the rest. Here's what you need to know to plan yours.
Why the southwest coast is the star of the show
To watch the sun set over the sea (rather than over land) you need to sail west, so the west and southwest coast of Mallorca — from Port Adriano towards Sant Elm and Sa Dragonera — is the natural setting for a sunset charter. Setting off from Port Adriano or Palma is the most practical option.
Porto Cristo, on the east coast, isn't the best base for this particular plan — from there, the sun sets behind the island rather than over the sea horizon.
How long it lasts, and when to set off
A sunset charter usually lasts 3 to 4 hours, starting 2-3 hours before sunset so there's time to sail, anchor in a quiet cove and enjoy the changing light without rushing. The exact departure time varies a lot by season — in June the sun sets much later than in October.
What to add to make it special
Cava and a light snack on board are the most requested extra for this kind of charter. For marriage proposals or anniversaries, we can also arrange touches like flowers on board or a discreet photographer to capture the moment without interrupting it.
If you'd rather have dinner watching the sunset from land, we can also coordinate a tender drop-off at one of the coastal restaurants with direct access from the sea — more on that in our restaurants and beach clubs guide.
How many people it works for
A sunset charter works just as well for a couple as for a small group of friends or family — what matters is the relaxed mood, not the group size. We'll recommend the boat based on how many of you there are and whether you're after something more intimate or more lively.
